Carl Friedrich Gauss died on 23 February 1855.

Gauss, considered by many as the greatest mathematicians of all times, contributed significantly to many fields. His main contributions to statistics include the discovery of the Normal distribution and the centaral limit theorem, and the development of the least squares method.
